Music from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me Angelo Badlamenti
After the second season of Twin Peaks, David Lynch and Robert Engles released the prequel film Fire Walk With Me the following year. Darker in tone and far more graphic than the television series, Fire Walk With Me has gained cult-favorite status over the years. As with the original show, the varied settings—backroom brothels, the Black Lodge, the Double R Diner, and the Twin Peaks police station—wouldn’t be the same without Badalamenti’s touch.
The music of Fire Walk With Me builds on the winning formula of the original series. Played back-to-back, the two soundtracks clearly belong to the same pine-scented town. One standout track is the full version of “Sycamore Trees,” which only appears in a shortened instrumental form in the film. Originally performed during Twin Peaks’ second season in the iconic Black Lodge, this version features jazz singer Jimmy Scott crooning over a sparse, moody instrumental. His cerebral “See you later” message fits the purgatory-esque atmosphere surround much of the series like a glove.
